.Matrix Manual

.Matrix Quick Start

This guide should (hopefully) get you started using .Matrix.

NOTE: if you get errors related to quicktime, reinstall quicktime 7. That will fix the odd path issues that you may run into.

Creating a New Show

To create a new show, open the .Matrix Editor. You’ll see a screen like this one.

startup_editor

To create a new show, click File, then New Show. You’ll get a box that looks like this. Type in your show name.

showname

Next, you’ll be asked for grid dimensions.

Next, you’ll be asked for the input DMX Universe and address. This will be the universe that .Matrix listens on for commands.

After that, you’ll be presented with a blank grid.

Now that you have the grid, you can begin inserting fixtures. To do this, click Tools, then Insert Fixture.

insert_fixture

Then, you’ll be presented with a dialog to select what type of fixture you’d like to insert.

fixture_dialog

After you select one, the new fixture will be inserted into the grid in the upper left corner. (The blue bar on the grid).

You can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out, and pan around the grid. (Hold the wheel down)

You can then click and drag the fixture to move it around.

Use the controls a the bottom of the window to change properties of the fixture. (Bug: Be sure to hit enter to make values stick, and deselect the fixture to apply the values).

After inserting several fixtures, and changing their attributes, you can end up with very complex led set ups.

fixtures_placed

The numbers by cell one (marked by a lighter blue block) represent the Art-Net Universe and the DMX Address of that fixture. This is useful to see what fixtures have been configured, and which haven’t.

Once you have saved your work (save often, this is beta after all) close the editor, and run the .Matrix Server, you’ll be asked which show file you’d like to open. After that, .Matrix will just sit mapping pixels to DMX, and your LED’s should light up on command. Enjoy!
